Advanced Probiotic Number One Nutrition • Honest Review

Last updated on September 22, 2018 By Ken Silvers

Advanced Probiotic by Number One Nutrition is a probiotic supplement that once was a best seller on Amazon.com. At that time, I prepared an Advanced Probiotic review to asses the quality and trust in this product.

In my initial review a few years ago, I concluded that this brand leaves consumers too much in the dark to be recommended. I still think they have this problem. But overall, things have improved.

Advanced Probiotics features

The label claims that each capsule at the time of manufacture contains 11.5 billion CFU. This is twice as much as the earlier supplement version I reviewed. This includes the following seven probiotic bacteria strains:

  • B. Subtilus
  • L. rhamnosus
  • L. casei
  • B. longum
  • L. acidophilus
  • L. plantarum
  • B. breve

This list of bacteria in Advanced Probiotic looks fine. The bacteria are all well researched and widely used in many probiotic supplements. And at last there is an independent lab test that reveals that label claims are correct, purity is fine, and nutritional value okay. This was something that was absent when I made the previous review.

The label on the bottle lists a few additional ingredients:

  • Vegetable cellulose. Normally harmless.
  • Stearic acid. Also different opinions as to the effect on the body.
  • Vegetable magnesium stearate. A controversial additive. Some regard it as a potentially harmful for the intestine and assimilation of nutrients. Others claim it’s safe.

Based on this information, it seems that this supplement would be fine to use. However, there are just a few concerns.

Advanced Probiotic concerns

One problem with Advanced Probiotic is still that there is very little known bout the company Number One Nutrition, the manufacturer, or who are involved in prepare their supplements. I don’t like this secrecy!

Their homepage paints a sketchy image. It offers no serious information on production principles or the competence behind supplement composition.

Before buying any supplement, one should make sure that the product meets basic requirements.

  • The supplement must contain stable bacteria that remain live and active for at least a year.
  • Bacteria must survive the harsh stomach environment to reach the intestine where they can reproduce.
  • Most high quality brands guarantee supplement stability for two years.

What about satisfied customers?

Yes, this is an important factor to consider. Customers expressing satisfaction with Advanced Probiotic by Number One Nutrition are of course not all wrong. And it might be that the supplement does work well.

However, it is beneficial to also have an objective way to determine the true quality or the manufacturing principles. When a number of claims are made about a product, consumers should be given enough information to support such claims. The information must have real substance and not just general statements like “The #1 Probiotic Supplement.”

Other supplements like Hyperbiotics, Mercola, Bio-Kult, Enzymatic Therapy offer solid information to customers about competence, manufacturing principles and ingredient quality. They often include third party studies on their products. All of this increase trust.

Verdict of Advanced Probiotic By Number One Nutrition

Many consumers say it works well. Lab tests are positive. Therefore, if you feel it work for you, fine.

    Hi,

I have been taking Number One Nutrition for thirty days after reading rave reviews about how well it works. I will start by saying that I have an intolerance to lactose. I ended up at urgent care with terrible pains that caused me to be out of work for three days. I’m not exactly sure if the supplement caused the problem, but I hadn’t been experiencing prior to taking the supplement. I will not be buying another bottle again. I hope that information helps.

      Hello Sonya.

Sorry to hear about your condition. But I appreciate that you are sharing your experience. As you say, it is very hard to be sure if this particular supplement is to blame for your problem. In most cases, low quality supplements have little or no health benefits. However, some supplements do contain synthetic substances, pesticides, fertilizers or MSG. They can cause reactions in some people.

It is safest to stick to high quality supplements. Preparing you own homemade fermented food is an even better way to nourish your body.

Does sour cream contain some of the needed probiotics? I am glad to read your review before sending away for these after taking anitbiotics for bladder infection. The Jarrow formula I usually rely on stopped working after they changed their formula. What can I eat to help myself?

      Hello Lyla.

Yes, you should be careful about supplements. I’ve tested a number of brands and NOW Foods, Mercola and Hyperbiotics are all very good. If you have very specific needs, then it might be an idea to find out which bacteria was changed in the Jarrow supplement. However, it is usually best to get a broad range of bacteria as the body craves diversity.

Most commercial sour cream brands contain small amounts of probiotics. Some yogurt or kefir might be a better alternative. Best is to make homemade yogurt. You only need milk and a good starter.
