Probiotics for diarrhea from antibiotics works well for many and is simple, safe, and cost effective. How should one go about this?

Antibiotics are often prescribed worldwide and can truly save lives. However, antibiotics can disturb the beneficial bacteria colonizing the digestive tract which often result in diarrhea. Probiotics for diarrhea seems to be a good option.

Probiotics for diarrhea from antibiotics proved effective

The primary objective of this particular study was to assess the efficacy and safety of probiotics for preventing inflammation, diarrhea, and colitis.

This review of 23 randomized controlled trials included 4213 patients and suggests that beneficial bacteria for diarrhea from antibiotics are both safe and effective.

Probiotics reduced the number of people who suffered diarrhea by 64%. There were also fewer side effects in people who took probiotics.

The results of this study suggest that probiotics decrease the risk of diarrhea from antibiotics. But it also decrease nausea, soft stools, and flatulence.

Lead researcher Bradley Johnston of The Hospital for Sick Children Research Institute in Toronto, Canada said: “The introduction of some probiotic regimens as adjuncts to antibiotics could have an immediate impact on patient outcomes.”

It’s good practice to consume probiotics before, during, and after taking antibiotics.
